NJCU Uses Strong Second Half to Defeat Rams

JERSEY CITY, N.J. | The Farmingdale State men's basketball team lost a non-conference matchup, 68-50, at New Jersey City University on Saturday evening. The Gothic Knights (6-4) outscored FSC (7-3), 46-24, in the second half en route to the victory.

The Rams trailed 10-5 in the early going before senior guard Zamere McKenzie (Beacon, N.Y.) hit a 3-pointer and freshman forward Macai John (Hauppauge, N.Y.) recorded three straight baskets to give Farmingdale State a 14-10 advantage.

FSC led by one, 17-16, with 5:34 to play in the first half and used back-to-back 3-pointers by guards Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) to take a seven-point edge.

Farmingdale State took a 26-22 lead into the break before a Tre Riggins (Baldwin, N.Y.) layup to open the second half put them in front by six.

NJCU cut their deficit to one, 38-37, with 15 minutes on the clock and went on an 18-1 run over the next 10 minutes to jump in front, 55-39.

The Gothic Knights outscored FSC, 13-11, in the final minutes as they earned the 68-50 non-conference victory.

John registered a team-high 10 points off the bench for the Rams.

Kayton Darley tallied 13 points and five rebounds for New Jersey City. 

The men's basketball team next heads to Hartford, Connecticut to play in the Trinity Holiday Invitational on December 30th-31st.
