Farmingdale State - 113, Old Westbury - 80
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team completed their regular season schedule with a 113-80 victory over Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon. The Rams are riding a 10-game winning streak and have finished 14-2 in conference play to clinch the #1 seed heading into the playoffs. Farmingdale State set the all-time program mark for most field goals made in a single game with 44. They also tied the records for most points and most assists (29) this afternoon.
FSC (18-7) led 20-18 midway through the first half before a layup by Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.), two free-throws from Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and a jumper by Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) gave the Rams a 26-18 advantage.
After a basket by the Panthers (8-15, 4-12 Skyline), Farmingdale State used a 6-0 run, including four points from sophomore forward Tre Riggins (Baldwin, N.Y.), to increase their lead to 12, 32-20.
After each team knocked down a 3-pointer, Hurowitz was fouled and hit both at the line to go up 14, 37-23.
The Rams took a 45-30 lead into the halftime break and opened the second with back-to-back baskets from senior forward Dominique Senat (Elmont, N.Y.) and Powell to take a 19-point advantage.
FSC held at least a 16-point lead until 7:36 remaining when they rattled off four consecutive 3-pointers, including three from freshman guard Kobe Thomas (Hicksville, N.Y.), to take a commanding 90-60 lead.
The Rams led by as many as 40 points down the stretch as they went on for the 113-80 victory.
Hurowitz recorded a career-best 24 points on 9-for-11 shooting from the floor, to go along with 10 rebounds, for a double-double. Thomas shot 6-for-6 from the field and was a perfect 5-for-5 from behind the arc for a career-high 17 points. Riggins was 4-for-4 from the field and had 12 points and eight rebounds, while Senat notched 12 points and five rebounds. Powell finished with 11 points and a career-high seven assists and Davis tallied 10 points, five assists and a season-high eight rebounds. Freshman guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) added nine points and six assists in the win.
Farmingdale State was 44-for-73 (60.3%) from the field and 12-of-25 (48.0%) from 3-point range in the victory.
The Rams have clinched the #1 seed for the Skyline Conference Men's Basketball Championship and will host the Quarterfinals on Tuesday, February 22nd.
