Rams Come-From-Behind to Defeat CMSV on Senior Day

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team trailed by 14, 44-30, early in the second half but outscored Mount Saint Vincent 43-23 in the final 16:28 to pick up a 73-67 come-from-behind victory this afternoon. FSC improved to 16-7 overall and 12-2 in Skyline play, while the Dolphins dropped to 9-12, 7-7.

Today was senior day at Farmingdale State and a pregame ceremony was held for the Rams lone senior Dominique Senat (Elmont, N.Y.).

Tied 12-12 midway through the first half, FSC used a 7-0 run, capped off by a Zamere McKenzie (Beacon, N.Y.) layup, to go up by seven. CMSV responded with four straight points before an Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) 3-pointer brought the Rams lead back to six, 22-16.

A 14-2 Dolphins run over the next 5:36 gave Mount Saint Vincent their largest lead of the first half at 36-24. Farmingdale State closed the half with a Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) layup and headed into the break down, 36-26.

Over the first 3:16 of the second half, the Dolphins increased their advantage to 14 at 44-30.

The Rams answered with five straight points from sophomore guard Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.), a jump shot by Powell and back-to-back baskets by McKenzie to quickly cut their deficit to three, 44-41.

Following a basket by Mount Saint Vincent, Powell recorded four unanswered points as FSC closed within one, 46-45, with 11:53 left.

The Dolphins would use a 7-2 run to regain a six-point edge, 53-47, but six straight points by Farmingdale State, capped off by a dunk from sophomore forward Tre Riggins (Baldwin, N.Y.), knotted the game at 53-53 with eight minutes remaining.

Tied 55-55 with 5:52 on the clock, Powell and Hurowitz hit back-to-back 3's to give the Rams a six-point advantage.

FSC still led by six, 66-60, with two minutes left and used a pair of free-throws from Senat to go ahead, 68-60.

On their next two possessions, the Dolphins scored two layups to cut the deficit to 68-64 with 46 seconds to play.

McKenzie was fouled just nine seconds later and knocked down both free-throws to give Farmingdale State a 70-64 advantage.

The Rams went 3-for-4 at the foul line in the final seconds to clinch the 73-67 Skyline Conference victory.

Powell recorded a team-high 18 points for the Rams, while Senat and McKenzie tallied 13 points and four rebounds apiece. Hurowitz had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and freshman guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) added three points, nine rebounds and five assists in the win.

Junior guard Dan Porcic (Putnam, Conn.) notched a game-high 20 points for the Dolphins.

Farmingdale State next will travel to play St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in a Skyline matchup on Tuesday, February 15th at 7:00 p.m.
