Rams Pick Up Conference Victory Over Mount Saint Mary

Farmingdale State - 76, Mount Saint Mary - 55


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team earned a 76-55 Skyline Conference victory over Mount Saint Mary this afternoon. The Rams improved to 12-7 overall and 8-2 in the conference, while the Knights dropped to 5-11, 3-5.

Mount Saint Mary jumped out to a 14-5 lead just over five minutes in after they connected on six of their first seven shots.

The Rams responded with a 16-4 run over the next 5:57, including seven points from sophomore forward Tre Riggins (Baldwin, N.Y.), to take a 21-18 advantage with nine minutes on the clock.

After four points by Mount Saint Mary put them ahead, 22-21, five straight by sophomore guard Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and a Riggins layup gave Farmingdale State a 28-21 lead with 5:19 left in the first.

FSC took a 36-32 advantage into the halftime break behind 12 points from Riggins and opened the second half with an 8-2 run to go in front by 10, 44-34.

Farmingdale State led 38-47 before back-to-back steals and fast break layups from freshman guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) and Hurowitz put the Rams in front, 51-38, with 13:56 to play.

Following a Knights time out, Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) tallied a pair of free-throws and Zamere McKenzie (Beacon, N.Y.) recorded a three-point play to extend the Rams advantage to 18, 55-38.

FSC led by 20, 62-42, with 8:06 remaining and used a 3-pointer from freshman guard Romello Wright (Brentwood, N.Y.) to take a commanding 23 point advantage.

The Rams led by as many as 26 down the stretch and went on for the 76-55 victory.

Riggins and Hurowitz led Farmingdale State with 14 points apiece. Powell notched 11 points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists, Santos registered six points, five assists, five rebounds and four steals and Wright had six points and three assists. McKenzie and senior forward Dominique Senat (Elmont, N.Y.) tallied five points and four rebounds each in the win.

The Rams will next host Skyline opponent Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday, February 1st at 7:00 p.m. as FSC welcomes back spectators.
