Balanced Offense Leads FSC Past Maritime

Farmingdale State - 78, Maritime - 70


Throggs Neck, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team defeated Maritime College, 78-70, in a Skyline Conference road game this afternoon. All five starters recorded double-digit point totals in the win for FSC.

Farmingdale State (10-7, 6-2 Skyline) led 4-2 just over three minutes into the game and scored 14 unanswered points, capped off by a 3-pointer from freshman guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.), to open up an 18-2 advantage.

Over the next five minutes, the Privateers (3-11, 0-8 Skyline) fought their way back into the game with a 17-3 run to close within two points, 21-19 with 8:32 on the clock.

The Rams responded with three straight layups to regain an eight-point lead, 27-19. 

Maritime outscored Farmingdale State, 11-8, to close the first half as they entered the second down by five, 35-30.

FSC opened with a layup from senior forward Dominique Senat (Elmont, N.Y.) and four points by sophomore guard Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) to go in front, 41-30.

After two baskets by the Privateers, layups by Hurowitz and Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and three free throws allowed FSC to take a 14-point advantage, 48-34, with 15:51 remaining.

Maritime answered with a 15-6 run to cut their deficit to five at 54-49.

With 10:19 on the clock, sophomore guard Zamere McKenzie (Beacon, N.Y.) recorded a layup and a 3-pointer to extend the Rams advantage to 59-49.

Following a jumper from the Privateers, Senat hit two free-throws before another basket from McKenzie put Farmingdale State on top, 63-51, with 7:48 left.

With 2:41 remaining, FSC held a 10-point lead, 71-61, before Maritime senior guard Mike Regan (Dix Hills, N.Y.) knocked down back-to-back 3's to close within seven.

Just over a minute later, Privateers' sophomore forward Robbie Mitchell (Richmond, N.Y.) tallied a layup to cut their deficit to just five with 1:10 to play.

On the Rams next trip down the flood, sophomore guard Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) set up Senat for a layup to put the Rams ahead 73-66.

After a miss by Maritime, Davis was fouled and hit both at the line to give Farmingdale State a nine-point edge, 75-66.

The Rams would go on for the 78-70 Skyline Conference victory.

Senat recorded a double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and two steals, while Davis had 16 points, three rebounds and two assists. Hurowitz finished with 15 points, five rebounds and three steals, Powell tallied 12 points, four rebounds and three assists, and Santos registered 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. McKenzie added nine points and nine rebounds off the bench for Farmingdale State.

Senior guard Ryan Donovan (North Salem, N.Y.) led the way for Maritime with a game-high 25 points.

FSC next travels to Manhattanville College for a Skyline game on Wednesday, January 26th at 7:00 p.m.
