FSC Defeats Purchase for Third Straight Conference Win

Farmingdale State - 92, Purchase - 74


Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team traveled to Purchase College for a conference game this afternoon and earned a 92-74 victory. The Rams won their third straight Skyline game and improved to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

FSC scored the first seven points of the game as sophomores Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Tre Riggins (Baldwin, N.Y.) recorded baskets before freshman guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) knocked down a 3-pointer.

Still leading by seven, 12-5, with 16 minutes on the clock, five unanswered points gave Farmingdale State a 17-5 advantage.

The Panthers (2-9, 2-2 Skyline) followed with an 11-4 run, including seven points by Malcolm Hansford-Whyte (Queens, N.Y.), to cut their deficit to just five, 21-16.

The Rams responded with back-to-back layups by sophomore guard Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and Riggins to regain a nine-point edge with nine minutes left in the first half. 

Santos stole the ball on the next Purchase possession and Hurowitz drained a 3-pointer to put FSC in front, 28-16.

Farmingdale State took a 13-point lead, 48-35, into the break and opened the second half with a Santos layup to go on top, 50-35.

Purchase closed within 11, 56-45, with 16:48 on the clock, but a 9-0 run allowed the Rams to take a 20-point advantage at 65-45.

FSC led 71-53 with 12:58 left before a three-point play from Riggins and a Zamere McKenzie (Beacon, N.Y.) jumper put Farmingdale State ahead by 23.

After a Panthers basket, Rams' sophomore guard Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) hit a 3-pointer as FSC went up by 24, 79-55.

The Rams led by as many as 25 in the final 10 minutes as they went on for the 92-74 victory.

Hurowitz and Riggins led Farmingdale State as they both recorded a double-double. Hurowitz produced 21 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks, while Riggins recorded 19 points, 13 rebounds and a block. Powell tallied 15 points and four rebounds and both McKenzie and Davis notched 10 points apiece. Santos added nine points and had a game-high seven assists.

Hansford-Whyte registered a game-high 29 points in the loss for Purchase.

The men's basketball team next hosts Merchant Marine for a Skyline game on Tuesday, January 18th at 7:00 p.m.
