FSC Rolls Past Old Westbury in Skyline Matchup

Farmingdale State - 95, Old Westbury - 81


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team played Old Westbury this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. and picked up a 95-81 victory.

FSC (7-6, 3-1 Skyline) sophomore guard Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) opened the game with a 3-pointer and a layup to give the Rams a quick 5-0 edge.

After Panthers' (5-6, 1-3 Skyline) senior guard Charles Wingate (Baldwin, N.Y.) made a jumper, Farmingdale State sophomore guard Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) connected on back-to-back 3's to put Farmingdale State on top, 11-2, just two minutes in.

Leading 16-6, Hurowitz made a layup and sophomore forward Tre Riggins (Baldwin, N.Y.) converted a three-point play as FSC took a 15-point advantage.

Still ahead by 15, 38-23, with 6:11 to play in the first half, Hurowitz and Riggins tallied layups to extend the Farmingdale State lead to 19, 42-23.

The Rams held a 20-point advantage, 52-32, before Hurowitz scored five unanswered points in the final 12 seconds of the half to go in front, 57-32, at the break.

Hurowitz was 8-for-14 with 22 points and five offensive rebounds in the first 20 minutes.

After trading baskets to open the second half, Davis knocked down a 3-pointer and Hurowitz converted another layup to give the Rams their largest lead of the game, 64-36, with 17:43 remaining.

Over the next 3:57, Old Westbury used a 17-5 run to cut their deficit to 16 at 69-53.

With 11 minutes on the clock and Farmingdale State leading, 73-56, Riggins hit a 3-pointer to put the Rams up by 20.

After a Panthers layup, FSC sophomore guard Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) recorded a pair of baskets in a 5-0 run as FSC went in front, 81-58.

Despite being outscored 23-14 over the final eight minutes, Farmingdale State went on for the 95-81 conference victory.

Hurowitz finished with a career-best 24 points and nine rebounds to lead the Rams. Davis registered five 3's and had 20 points, while Riggins tallied a career-high 18 points. Powell notched 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting and freshman guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) produced seven points and had career-highs with 10 assists and four steals. 

FSC recorded 15 3-pointers as a team which ranks tied for second all-time in a single game.

Old Westbury was led by Wingate who had 24 points in the loss.

The Rams next will travel to Purchase for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, January 15th at 2:00 p.m.
