Wesleyan Improves to 9-1 With Win Over FSC

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team hosted Wesleyan University in a non-conference game this afternoon and fell, 85-80. The Rams now stand at 4-6 on the year, while the Cardinals improved to 9-1.

After a Gabe Ravetz (New York, N.Y.) 3-pointer put Wesleyan up 18-11 with 12:51 left in the first half, the Cardinals followed with an 8-1 run to extend the lead to 14. The Rams quickly answered with three straight baskets to cut the deficit to eight, 26-18.

With 3:09 remaining and FSC down 34-29, Wesleyan closed the half on a 7-2 run and took a 41-31 advantage into the break.

Ravetz recorded a team-high 12 points for the Cardinals, while senior forward Dominique Senat (Elmont, N.Y.) led the way with nine first half points for Farmingdale State.

Leading 53-43 early in the second half, Wesleyan used a 9-0 run to extend the advantage to 19. A quick 8-1 spurt for the Rams cut the deficit to 63-51 with 11:42 left on the clock. After a Ravetz 3 on the next Cardinals possession, FSC answered with a basket by freshman guard Kobe Thomas (Hicksville, N.Y.) and back-to-back Senat layups to pull within nine.

Wesleyan led 79-66 with 2:37 remaining before six straight points by FSC sophomore guard Zamere McKenzie (Beacon, N.Y.) brought the Cardinals advantage to seven. Wesleyan followed with a layup on their next trip down the floor before Senat knocked down a 3-pointer to close within six, 81-75, with 31 seconds left to play.

With five seconds on the clock, McKenzie's shot from behind the arc cut the deficit to 83-80. Wesleyan senior guard Sam Peek (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) was fouled and hit both free-throws to seal the 85-80 non-conference victory.

Mckenzie finished the afternoon with a career-high 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 4-for-6 from behind the arc, while Senat registered a double-double with 20 points (7-for-11 shooting) and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored 12 points, had nine rebounds and four assists in the loss for Farmingdale State.

Wesleyan was led by Peek who tallied a game-high 25 points to go along with nine boards, while Ravetz hit seven 3's for 21 points.

The Rams next will travel to Ramapo for a non-conference game on Saturday, December 18th at 2:00 p.m.
