Men's Basketball Drops Road Game at #24 New Jersey City

#24 New Jersey City - 85, Farmingdale State - 63


Jersey City, N.J. - The FSC men's basketball team traveled to #24 New Jersey City University on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference game and lost, 85-63. The Rams fell to 0-2, while the Gothic Knights improved to 2-1.

NJCU came out quickly, scoring the first 14 points of the game, including five points from sophomore forward Ryan Savoy (Lakewood, N.J.).

Leading 16-4, New Jersey City senior guard Denzel Banks (Newark, N.J.) tallied two 3-pointers in an 8-0 run to take a commanding 24-4 advantage.

FSC trailed 29-7 before back-to-back layups from sophomore forward Tre Riggins (Baldwin, N.Y.) and senior forward Dominique Senat (Elmont, N.Y.) and two free-throws by freshman guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) cut their deficit to 29-13.

Over the final seven minutes of the first half, the Gothic Knights outscored the Rams 15-13 as they took an 18-point lead, 44-26, into the break.

NJCU regained a 20-point advantage with a Savoy layup to open the second half.

Banks followed up with a basket and free-throw to go in front, 49-26.

With 11 minutes remaining, Farmingdale State trailed 62-40 and scored six straight points, including three from freshman forward James Cosgrove (Franklin Square, N.Y.), to close within 16.

The Rams were down 68-53 with six minutes left and used a 3-pointer from Santos and a free-throw by junior forward Elijah Galloway (Bronx, N.Y.) to cut their deficit to 11, 68-57.

On the next possession, Gothic Knights senior guard Jason Battle (Jersey City, N.J.) answered with a 3-pointer, off the feed from Banks, to go in front, 71-57.

New Jersey City outscored Farmingdale State 14-6 over the final five minutes as they earned the 85-63 non-conference victory.

Senat scored a team-high 16 points for the Rams on 6-for-8 shooting, while Santos recorded 10 points. Riggins and sophomore guard Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) tallied eight points apiece and sophomore guard Zamere McKenzie (Beacon, N.Y.) added seven points, five rebounds and three assists off the bench.

Banks scored a game-high 27 points in the win for NJCU, while Savoy registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The men's basketball team next will travel to New Paltz for a non-conference game on Wednesday, November 17th at 7:00 p.m.
