Farmingdale State - 95, Plattsburgh State - 84
Oneonta, N.Y. - On the first day of the Hartwick College Tip-Off Tournament, the FSC men's basketball team played Plattsburgh State and earned a 95-84 victory behind 28 points from senior forward Hunter Schenkel (Sayville, N.Y.). With the win, Farmingdale State Head Coach Brendan Twomey picked up his 100th win at FSC.
The Rams (2-0) started quickly as they opened up a 20-6 advantage just 6:15 in. Schenkel knocked down three 3-pointers during the run.
Down 32-16 with 8:08 left in the first half, the Cardinals (0-1) used a 9-0 run to close within seven.
After Farmingdale State regained a 10-point edge at 40-30, an 8-0 run allowed Plattsburgh to cut their deficit to just two.
The Rams took a two-point lead, 47-45, into the second half and opened with a 6-2 run including 3's from senior guard Troy Feeney (Hewlett, N.Y.) and Schenkel to take a 53-47 advantage.
Leading 64-58 with 13:35 left to play, Schenkel recorded a three-point play to go in front by nine, 67-58.
With FSC leading 73-65, Cardinals' senior guard Jeremy Eisenman (New York, N.Y.) registered back-to-back 3-pointers to once again cut their deficit to two at 73-71.
Farmingdale State responded with an 8-2 run as freshman guard Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and senior forward Jermaine Fraser (Valley Stream, N.Y.) tallied four points apiece to take an 82-73 lead.
Plattsburgh closed within four, 88-84, with 1:33 remaining but the Rams ended the game on a 7-0 run to earn the 95-84 non-conference victory.
Schenkel shot 5-for-9 from behind the arc and pulled down eight boards to go along with his game-high 28 points. Feeney recorded a trio of 3's and finished with 15 points, while Powell tallied 13 points and four rebounds. Senior guard Anthony Miller Jr. (Yonkers, N.Y.), who notched a career-high eight assists, junior forward Dominique Senat (Elmont, N.Y.) and freshman guard Zac Goldstein (Warwick, N.Y.) finished with eight points apiece in the win.
The Cardinals were led by junior guard Travis Cox (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman center Cameron Ness (Clintondale, N.Y.) who registered 25 and 19 points, respectively.
The Rams next play host-school Hartwick in the Championship game of the tournament tomorrow, Saturday, November 16th at 4:00 p.m.
