FSC Earns Skyline Win at Maritime

Farmingdale State - 85, Maritime - 70


Throggs Neck, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team traveled to Maritime College on Tuesday evening and earned an 85-70 conference victory. The Rams improved to 12-7 overall and 10-4 in Skyline play, while the Privateers fell to 4-17, 3-13.

Trailing 9-8 just over three minutes into the contest, FSC used a 12-0 run, including four points each from junior guard Ryan Kennedy (Maspeth, N.Y.) and senior guard Ali Mableton (Brentwood, N.Y.), to take a 20-9 advantage.

With Farmingdale State still leading by 11, 24-13, with 11:36 left to play in the half, Maritime would go on a 10-2 run over the next 5:19 to cut the deficit to just three. After a quick 6-2 run by the Rams, the Privateers used a 7-0 run to tie the game at 32-32 with 3:25 remaining on the clock.

In the final three minutes of the half, FSC outscored Maritime, 8-2, as Kennedy knocked down a pair of 3's, while junior guard Anthony Miller Jr. (Yonkers, N.Y.) tallied a jumper, to put the Rams ahead, 40-34.

Farmingdale State came out quickly in the second half as they used a 17-2 run in the first 4:23 to open up a commanding 57-36 lead. Kennedy tallied a trio of 3-pointers as he recorded 11 points in the run.

Leading 71-50 with 8:39 remaining, Rams junior guard Chaz Platt (Jamaica, N.Y.) recorded nine straight points, including two 3-pointers, to give FSC a 30-point edge, 80-50.

Despite being outscored 20-5 over the final 6:23, Farmingdale State held on for the conference victory, 85-70.

Kennedy led the way for the Rams as he finished with a game-high 24 points on 9-for-16 shooting. Senior forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) (6-7 FG) produced 15 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, while junior forward Jermaine Fraser (Valley Stream, N.Y.) (7-7 FG) registered 14 points, five rebounds and a game-high three blocks. Platt added 11 points and Mableton tallied eight points and a season-high seven assists in the win.

For Maritime, junior guard Michael Walker (Bayport, N.Y.) ended with a team-high 17 points, while junior guard Brendan McGovern (Seaford, N.Y.) had 16 points and five rebounds.

FSC next travels to Bronxville, N.Y. to play Skyline Conference opponent Sarah Lawrence on Thursday, January 31st at 8:00 p.m.
