Farmingdale State - 94, Mount Saint Mary - 71
Farmingdale, N.Y. - Junior guard Anthony Miller Jr. (Yonkers, N.Y.) scored a career-high 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 6-for-8 from 3-point range as the Farmingdale State men's basketball team cruised to a 94-71 victory over Skyline Conference opponent Mount Saint Mary College this afternoon.
Trailing 3-0 in the opening minute, the Rams (8-5, 6-2) used back-to-back 3's by Miller Jr. and a layup from senior forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) to take an 8-2 advantage.
After FSC extended the lead to 19-5 with 13:58 remaining, Mount Saint Mary (8-4, 5-2) hit two straight layups to cut the deficit to 10. Two possessions later, Farmingdale State junior guard Ryan Kennedy (Maspeth, N.Y.) connected on a 3 and hit a free-throw after being fouled to complete the four-point play and put the Rams ahead, 23-9.
With 7:34 on the clock and the Knights down 34-24, an 8-0 MSMC run, capped off by a Jameson Morton (Woodstock, N.Y.) layup, cut the deficit to only two with less than five minutes remaining. FSC outscored Mount Saint Mary 14-5 the remainder of the half and took a 48-37 advantage into the break. Miller hit four 3's for a team-high 12 points in the first, while junior guard Kendall Francis (Great Neck, N.Y.) tallied 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting for MSMC.
After the Knights started the second half with five straight points, Farmingdale State answered with a 20-0 run to quickly open up a 68-42 lead with 13:58 left to play.
Leading 80-61 with 6:59 on the clock, a De'Shawn Todman (Deer Park, N.Y.) layup and Miller Jr. 3-pointer put FSC in front, 85-61. The Rams went on for the 94-71 victory as Miller Jr. led the way with a team-high 21 points. Kennedy finished with 13 points, while Riefenstahl recorded a double-double on 10 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four assists and a pair of blocks. Senior guard Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) added 11 points, five boards and five assists in the win for Farmingdale State.
Francis, who entered the day ranked second in the Skyline Conference for scoring, tallied a game-high 27 points and hit seven 3's for MSMC.
The Rams next will travel to Mount Saint Vincent for a conference game on Tuesday, January 8th at 8:00 p.m.
