FSC Cruises Past Maritime in Conference Matchup

Farmingdale State - 90, Maritime - 58


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The FSC men's basketball team cruised to a 90-58 Skyline Conference victory over Maritime this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. With the win, Farmingdale State improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Rams' junior guard Ryan Kennedy (Maspeth, N.Y.) opened the game with a layup and a 3 to give FSC a quick 5-0 advantage, but the Privateers (1-6, 0-2 Skyline) answered with a 9-3 run to take a one-point edge, 9-8.

Trailing 15-14 with 10:02 on the clock, Farmingdale State used a layup from senior forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) and a 3 from Kennedy to take a 19-15 lead. 

After a pair of free-throws from Maritime junior guard Brendan McGovern (Seaford, N.Y.), the Rams went on an 11-0 run to open up a 13-point advantage, 30-17.

FSC outscored the Privateers 15-14 over the final 6:22 of the half as they went into the break leading, 45-31.

Kennedy shot 4-of-6 from the field for 13 first half points.

Ahead 49-38 in the opening minutes of the second half, Rams' senior guard Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) knocked down a 3 before Riefenstahl stole the ball and converted a three-point play to put the Rams up 55-38. Over the next 4:49, Graham, Riefenstahl and senior guard Ali Mableton (Brentwood, N.Y.) combined for 12 straight points to give Farmingdale State a commanding 67-38 advantage.

After six points from Maritime junior guard Michael Walker (Bayport, N.Y.), Graham connected on another 3-pointer and junior guard Kyle Beeson (South Jamaica, N.Y.) laid the ball in and hit a free-throw to regain a 29-point lead with 11:11 left.

The Rams would lead by as many as 37 down the stretch as they earned the conference victory, 90-58. 

Kennedy (5-for-7) and Graham (5-for-10) led the way for Farmingdale State with 16 points apiece, while Beeson finished with 14 points and six rebounds. Riefenstahl tallied 12 points, two blocks and four rebounds and junior forward Andrew Ballou (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded 10 points and six rebounds in the win.

For Maritime, Walker registered a game-high 17 points, while McGovern produced 12 points and three rebounds.

Graham (995 points) and Riefenstahl (994 points) are five and six points away, respectively, from 1,000 career points as the Rams next travel to Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference game on Tuesday, December 4th at 5:00 p.m.
