Farmingdale State - 73, Stockton - 58
Galloway, N.J. - In the championship game of the Stockton Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday afternoon, the Farmingdale State men's basketball team claimed the title after defeating the host Ospreys, 73-58. The Rams are now 2-0 heading into tomorrow's Skyline Conference matchup versus St. Joseph's-Brooklyn.
Leading 5-2, the Rams used a 10-0 run, which saw 3's by Ryan Kennedy (Maspeth, N.Y.) and Anthony Miller Jr. (Yonkers, N.Y.), to go out in front, 15-2. After Stockton (1-1) cut the deficit to 26-16 midway through the first half, FSC answered with a Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) jumper and a layup by Andrew Ballou (Staten Island, N.Y.) to go back on top by 14.
With 4:32 left on the clock and Farmingdale State ahead 35-22, Stockton's Keenan Williams (Paulsboro, N.J.) converted a pair of 3-pointers and Othniel Nyamekye (Irvington, N.J) hit a layup for an 8-0 run to cut the Rams' lead to eight. FSC took a nine-point advantage, 37-28, into halftime as Kennedy and Miller Jr. led the way with nine points apiece.
After a Jordan Taylor (East Orange, N.J.) 3-pointer brought the Ospreys within eight, 45-37, Kennedy responded with his fourth 3 of the game to bring the lead back to double-digits with 13:13 remaining.
Stockton's Steve Ferebee (Galloway, N.J.) hit a jump shot with 8:59 on the clock then the Farmingdale State defense held the Ospreys without a field goal over the next 4:29 as they extended the advantage to 63-44.
The Rams led by at least 10 points the remainder of the game as they earned the 73-58 victory.
FSC senior forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.), who scored 14 points and had 13 rebounds in the second half, finished the afternoon with 18 points and a game-high 15 boards. Kennedy was 5-for-10 from behind the arc for 15 points, while Graham scored 10 points and had four rebounds. Senior guard Ali Mableton (Brentwood, N.Y.) had six points and dished out a game-high six assists in the win.
For Stockton, Taylor recorded a game-high 19 points to go along with six rebounds, while Williams Jr. had 15 points, six boards, four assists and four steals.
Farmingdale State next will travel to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Tuesday, November 20th at 7:00 p.m.
