Rams Defeat Champlain College on Foreign Tour in Montreal

Montreal, Quebec - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team traveled to Montreal, Quebec from August 23rd-26th to play three exhibition games in their first ever foreign tour. FSC first played the Université du Québec à Montréal Citadins (UQAM) on Friday, August 24th and fell, 95-90, before dropping their second contest on Saturday against Université Laval Rouge et Or, 92-77. The Rams earned a win in their final game on Sunday as they overcame an 18-point deficit to defeat Champlain College, 85-80. Each game was played in four 10-minute quarters under FIBA rules.

In their first game against UQAM, the Rams led 45-40 at halftime. Junior guard Ryan Kennedy (Maspeth, N.Y.) had 12 points, including 3-for-3 from behind the arc, and senior forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) tallied 11 points and five boards in the first half.

Trailing 87-77, with 4:47 left in the game, FSC used a 12-2 run over the next 1:19 to tie the game at 89-89. Farmingdale State would take the lead, 90-89, as junior forward Andrew Ballou (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit 1-of-2 at the free-throw line, but the Citadins closed the game on a 6-0 run to seal the 95-90 victory.

Riefenstahl led the way for the Rams, recording team-high's with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Kennedy finished with 16 points and four assists, while senior guard Ali Mableton (Brentwood, N.Y.) tallied 12 points in the loss.

In game two versus Laval, FSC trailed by 11 points, 15-4, in the early going but the Rams responded to cut the deficit to just two at halftime, 46-44. 

After three quarters, Farmingdale State trailed by only one point, 69-68, but Laval would pull away in the fourth, outscoring FSC 23-9 for the 92-77 victory.

Senior guard Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) registered a team-high 15 points and three steals for the Rams, while junior guard Troy Feeney (Hewlett, N.Y.) produced 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.

In their final exhibition game against the Champlain College Cavaliers, Farmingdale State led by one at the half, 40-39, but would trail by 16, 68-52, after three quarters. The Rams opened the fourth quarter with a 19-3 run to take a one-point advantage, 72-71, with 4:53 remaining. FSC would outscore the Cavaliers 13-9 over the remainder of the game as they held on for the win, 85-80.

Graham recorded a game-high 25 points, while junior guard Kyle Beeson (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) and Feeney tallied 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Farmingdale State opens their 2018-19 regular season schedule on Saturday, November 17th when they travel to play Neumann (@ Stockton College) at 7:00 p.m.
