Farmingdale State - 75, Mount Saint Mary - 54
Farmingdale, N.Y. - In a Skyline Conference men's basketball game this afternoon, Farmingdale State trailed by two points at the half and outscored Mount Saint Mary 47-24 in the second to earn a 21-point victory, 75-54. The Rams improved to 14-6 overall and 12-3 in the conference, while the Knights fell to 8-12, 8-7.
Tied 14-14 just over five minutes into the game, Mount Saint Mary would use back-to-back 3-pointers by senior guards Tyler McDine (Suffern, N.Y.) and Daniel Wolff (Holtsville, N.Y.) to take a six point lead, 20-14. After a layup by FSC junior forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.), another McDine 3 gave the Knights a seven-point edge, 23-16, with 8:07 left in the first half.
Still down by seven, 28-21, Farmingdale State would close the half on a 7-2 run to go into the break trailing by two, 30-28.
MSMC senior guard Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.J.) led all scorers with 11 first half points.
Over the first 7:34 of the second, the Rams outscored the Knights 19-5 to take a 12-point lead, 47-35.
Mount Saint Mary would respond with a 10-3 run, capped off by a Nocera 3, to cut the deficit to five. After a layup by Rams sophomore guard Troy Feeney (Hewlett, N.Y.), another 3 by Nocera allowed MSMC to close within just four points, 52-48, with 8:17 remaining.
FSC would answer by scoring the game's next 16 points on an Anthony Miller Jr. (Yonkers, N.Y.) 3, a dunk by Riefenstahl and 11 straight points by junior guard Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) to go in front by 20, 68-48.
Farmingdale State would hold at least a 17-point advantage the rest of the way as they earned the conference victory, 75-54.
Graham totaled a team-high 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting, while junior guard Ali Mableton (Brentwood, N.Y.) tallied 14 points, six assists and three steals. Riefenstahl registered game-highs with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Nocera recorded a game-high 20 points for the Knights, while McDine produced eight points, six rebounds and six assists in the loss.
The Rams next travel to Purchase College for a conference matchup on Monday, February 5th at 6:00 p.m.
