Mount Saint Vincent - 73, Farmingdale State - 62
Riverdale, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent had all five starters score in double-digits as they earned a 73-62 victory over Farmingdale State on Thursday evening. The FSC men's basketball team fell to 10-5 overall and 8-3 in the Skyline, while the first place Dolphins improved to 11-5, 9-2.
Trailing 10-8 only 6:54 into the contest, a 3-pointer by FSC junior guard Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) put the Rams ahead by one. Mount Saint Vincent would quickly counter as they used a 7-2 run to take a four-point advantage, 17-13.
After a pair of Farmingdale State free-throws, the Dolphins would outscore the Rams 20-3 over the next 5:39, capped off by back-to-back 3's from senior forward Mike Mulligan (Pearl River, N.Y.) and sophomore guard Brian Brooks (Albany, N.Y.), to open up a 19-point lead at 37-18.
FSC outscored Mount Saint Vincent 7-2 over the final 2:23 of the half and went into the break trailing, 39-25.
With 16:15 remaining and the Dolphins up 49-35, another 3-pointer from Brooks increased their advantage to 17 points. Farmingdale State would answer with a 10-1 run, which saw 3's by sophomore guards Anthony Miller Jr. (Yonkers, N.Y.) and Chaz Platt (Jamaica, N.Y.), to cut the deficit to eight, 53-45, with 12:52 left to play.
With 3:01 remaining and the Rams down 68-59, a 3 by Graham pulled the Rams to within six. On the ensuing possession, MSV senior forward Andrew Curiel (Bronx, N.Y.) hit a layup to bring the lead to eight, 70-62, with 1:46 on the clock.
Despite struggling from the free-throw line down the stretch, the Dolphins held FSC scoreless the remainder of the game as they earned the 73-62 victory.
Farmingdale State was led by senior guard Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) who tallied a game-high 15 points. Junior forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) recorded game-highs in both rebounds (10) and blocks (3), while Platt and Miller Jr. each produced eight points off the bench in the loss.
For Mount Saint Vincent, Curiel and senior forward Ammad Alkhulaidi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) registered 14 points apiece, while Brooks, senior guard Jose Maestre (Bronx, N.Y.) and freshman guard Makai Johnson (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) totaled 11 points each in the win.
The Rams next travel to #19 Wesleyan University on Wednesday, January 24th at 7:00 p.m.
