New Jersey City Earns Non-Conference Win Over FSC

Farmingdale, N.Y. - In a non-conference men's basketball game this afternoon, Farmingdale State hosted New Jersey City University and fell, 77-71. The Rams now stand at 1-2 on the year, while the Gothic Knights improved to a perfect 5-0.

NJCU trailed 18-17 with 12:00 remaining in the first half before sophomore forward Sam Toney (Plainfield, N.J.) connected on three straight 3-pointers to put the Gothic Knights ahead, 26-18. After New Jersey City extended the advantage to 32-22, Farmingdale State answered with a 15-0 run over the next 3:55 to take a five-point lead with 3:38 left to play. The Rams led by nine late in the half but the Gothic Knights tallied the final five points as FSC went into the break on top, 43-39.

Farmingdale State junior guard Ali Mableton (Brentwood, N.Y.) led the way by shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor en route to 15 first half points.

Trailing 57-53 with 10:03 on the clock, the Rams used back-to-back layups from Mableton and sophomore guard Chaz Platt (Jamaica, N.Y.) to even the score at 57-57. NJCU quickly responded with six straight points to go out in front, 63-57, with 5:49 remaining.

The Gothic Knights extended their advantage to nine before a 7-0 FSC run which saw five points by Mableton and a pair of Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) free-throws cut the lead to two, 67-65, with 2:09 left to play. A Lavrone Green (Teaneck, N.J.) 3 and two free-throws from Shaquan Worthy (Trenton, N.J.) on the next two NJCU possessions put the Gothic Knights up seven with less than a minute remaining. New Jersey City went on to earn the 77-71 non-conference victory.

Mableton finished the afternoon with a career-high 29 points on 12-of-15 shooting, while Monaghan added 17 points (5-for-9) and a game-high six assists.

Toney paced the Gothic Knights with a team-high 24 points to go along with six assists and five rebounds. 

FSC next will host Lehman College in a non-conference game on Wednesday, November 29th at 7:00 p.m.
