Old Westbury - 84, Farmingdale State - 82


Old Westbury, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team traveled to Old Westbury for a Skyline game on Saturday and fell, 84-82, to suffer their first conference loss of the season.

Trailing 48-39 with 19:36 remaining in the second half, Farmingdale State (17-6, 13-1) used a 14-0 run over the next 6:46 to go ahead, 53-48.

A Chaz Platt (Jamaica, N.Y.) 3-pointer extended the FSC advantage to 56-50, before Old Westbury (15-7, 11-2) recorded seven straight points to regain the lead at 57-56. The Rams quickly answered with a 9-0 run capped off by 3's from Ali Mableton (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) to take a 66-57 advantage with 9:43 left to play.

With 2:43 remaining and OW trailing 78-72, sophomore forward Stanley Baker (Manhattan, N.Y.) recorded a tip-in and converted the free-throw after being fouled to cut the Panthers deficit in half. The Rams hit 1-of-2 at the line on their next possession before three straight points by Old Westbury pulled the Panthers within one, 79-78, with 2:09 on the clock.

After a George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) layup gave the Rams an 81-78 edge, Old Westbury responded with five unanswered points to go on top, 83-81, with 16 seconds remaining. Each team hit 1-of-2 free-throws on their next possession but Farmingdale State could not convert the game-winning 3 at the buzzer as OW held on for the 84-82 victory.

Mableton tallied 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting, while Riefenstahl had a double-double with 21 points (10-for-11) and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) scored 14 points, had three assists and a game-high four steals for FSC.

The Panthers were led by senior guard Jamail Stanley's (Syracuse, N.Y.) 22 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.

Farmingdale State next will play host to Yeshiva in a Skyline Conference game on Tuesday, February 14th at 8:00 p.m.
