Farmingdale State - 74, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn - 68
Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team earned a 74-68 win at St. Joe's-Brooklyn on Thursday as sophomore guard Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 19 points and senior forward Weldon Irvine* (Queens, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 11 points and a season-high 14 rebounds.
Tied 51-51 with 8:53 remaining, the Rams (2-2, 1-0) used a 3-pointer from junior guard Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) to go ahead by three. After the Bears (1-4, 0-1) connected on 1-of-2 at the line on their next possession, Kinard answered with a four-point play after hitting a 3 and free-throw to give Farmingdale State a six-point edge, 58-52.
FSC extended the advantage to 68-59 with 3:01 on the clock, before St. Joe's-Brooklyn used a 3-pointer from Dimitri Sirakis (Hollis Hills, N.Y.) and a pair of Christian Giles (East Elmhurst, N.Y.) free-throws to cut the deficit to 68-64.
After a layup and two free-throws from Aaron Parra (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pulled the Bears within one, 69-68, with 1:00 minute remaining, the Rams closed the game with five straight points to earn the 74-68 conference victory.
Monaghan tallied 10 points and a game-high seven assists, while sophomore guard Ali Mableton (Brentwood, N.Y.) pitched in with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting for FSC.
St. Joe's-Brooklyn was led by Parra who scored a team-high 15 points and added nine boards.
Farmingdale State next will travel to Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, December 3rd for a Skyline Conference game tipping off at 1:00 p.m.
