Farmingdale State - 85, Mount Saint Vincent - 75
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team closed the regular season with an 85-75 victory over Mount Saint Vincent this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y.
The game featured senior day for three seniors, Eddie Kinloch (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Anthony Lanieri (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Gorkem Osman (Stony Brook, N.Y.), along with the teams' two managers, Meagan Anderson and Adrian Jonassaint.
After Mount Saint Vincent (9-16, 8-12) scored the first 11 points of the game, the Rams (14-11, 14-6) answered with a 14-2 run to take a 14-13 lead with 9:33 left to play in the first half.
Leading 22-17, Farmingdale State used five points from Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) and a Brandon Herriot (Hollis, N.Y.) 3-pointer to go on top, 30-17.
With 1:44 remaining and the Dolphins down 34-27, sophomore forward Andrew Curiel (Bronx, N.Y.) hit a 3 and followed with a jumper to cut the MSV deficit to two. The Rams took a 38-35 lead into the break as sophomore guard Jarred Marrow (Amityville, N.Y.) scored a team-leading 10 points in the first half.
FSC held a two-point edge at 51-49 and used three straight layups to extend the lead to 57-49 with 11:32 left on the clock.
Trailing 68-57, the Dolphins went on a quick 8-2 run to close within five, 70-65. The Rams answered with a 7-0 run to bring the lead back to double-digits at 77-65 with 3:25 remaining. Farmingdale State was 6-for-6 at the line over the final 3:25 to seal the 10-point victory.
Junior forward Weldon Irvine (Queens, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds, while Monaghan scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Marrow finished with a team-high 16 points and was 11-for-11 from the free-throw line and freshman forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) tallied 10 points and eight rebounds in the win.
The Dolphins were led by sophomore guard Jamie Ferebee (Staten Island, N.Y.) and junior guard Jesse Regina (Staten Island, N.Y.) who scored 21 and 20 points, respectively.
Farmingdale State will await their seeding heading into next weeks Skyline Conference playoffs.
