Free-Throws Key in Rams Victory Over First-Place Old Westbury

Farmingdale State - 75, Old Westbury - 71


Old Westbury, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team traveled to Old Westbury on Thursday night to face the first-place Panthers in a Skyline Conference matchup and won, 75-71. Farmingdale State shot 25-of-28 from the free-throw line and have now won five straight games.

Just 3:02 into the game, the Rams (13-11, 13-6) used an 11-2 run capped off with a Jarred Marrow (Amityville, N.Y.) 3-pointer to take a 16-5 lead. Old Westbury (16-8, 15-4) answered with an 8-0 run over the next 3:46 to cut FSC's advantage to 16-13.

The Rams held a two-point lead until sophomore guard Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) hit a 3-pointer with one second left in the half to give the Rams a 31-26 edge heading into the locker room.

The Panthers came out quick to start the second half and outscored Farmingdale State 29-10 in the first 11:53 to open up a 14-point lead at 55-41.

The Rams quickly answered with a 25-5 run to go ahead, 66-60, with 2:09 remaining.

Farmingdale State guards Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.), Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Kinard combined for 9-of-10 at the free-throw line over the final two minutes of the game to seal the victory for the Rams, 75-71.

Farmingdale had five scorers in double digits, including Marrow (15), Kinard (14), Graham (11), Weldon Irvine (11) (Queens, N.Y.) and Eddie Kinloch (10) (Brooklyn, N.Y.).

Old Westbury's Jamail Stanley (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored a game-high 31 points, had 12 rebounds, five assists and two blocks.

FSC will host Mount Saint Vincent on senior day in the their final regular season game on Saturday, February 20th at 2:00 p.m.
