Second Half Defense Leads Rams Past St. Joe's-L.I.

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State trailed by two points at halftime and outscored St. Joseph's-L.I. 34-14 in the second half to earn the 69-51 conference victory. With tonight's win, the FSC men's basketball team improved to 11-11 overall and 11-6 in Skyline play.

Trailing 28-17 with 8:03 remaining in the first half, Farmingdale State used a 3-pointer from Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) and a Brandon Herriot (Hollis, N.Y.) layup to cut the deficit to 28-22. After the Golden Eagles (9-13, 8-9) extended the lead to 35-24, senior guard Eddie Kinloch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) connected on back-to-back layups and sophomore guard Jarred Marrow (Amityville, N.Y.) followed with a jumper to pull the Rams within five, 35-30, with 2:17 left in the half.

St. Joe's-L.I. held a 37-32 advantage until Kinard closed the half with a 3 to send Farmingdale State into the break down 37-35. Kinard tallied 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 4-for-5 from behind the arc in the first half.

Farmingdale State opened the second half on a 15-2 run over the first 5:15 to take their largest lead of the game at 50-39. The Golden Eagles quickly answered with an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 52-47 with 9:21 left to play.

FSC allowed only one field goal over the final 9:21 as they earned the 69-51 victory. The Rams defense held St. Joe's-L.I. to 5-of-25 (20%) shooting, including 0-for-11 from 3-point range in the second half.

Kinard finished with a team-leading 19 points, while Kinloch recorded 18 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Weldon Irvine (Queens, N.Y.) tallied a game-high nine boards and blocked two shots.

St. Joseph's-LI was led by Dominique Spann's (North Babylon, N.Y.) game-high 20 points.

The Rams next will host St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, February 13th at 7:00 p.m.
