Riefenstahl Leads Rams Past Sarah Lawrence

Farmingdale State - 70, Sarah Lawrence - 65


Bronxville, N.Y. - Farmingdale State freshman forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 18 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in the 70-65 win at Sarah Lawrence on Wednesday night. The FSC men's basketball team improved to 9-11 overall and 9-6 in conference play this season.

Trailing 25-24 at the start of the second half, the Rams opened with a 7-0 run to take a 31-25 lead. After a Sarah Lawrence (4-17, 1-15) free-throw, Riefenstahl scored five straight points as Farmingdale State extended their advantage to 36-26 with 16:13 remaining.

With 8:37 left to play and the Rams on top 52-43, the Gryphons used a 3-pointer by Parker Hagmaier (Oakland, Calif.) to cut the deficit to six, 52-46. FSC responded with a 5-0 run to regain a double-digit lead at 57-46 with less than six minutes remaining.

The Rams led 63-52 with 2:14 on the clock, until back-to-back Sarah Lawrence 3's pulled the Gryphons within five at 63-58.

Trailing 67-60 with 41 seconds remaining, Sarah Lawrence cut the deficit to five after Stevan Radosavljevic (Lazarevac, Serbia) was fouled and converted both free-throws at the line. After an FSC turnover on their next possession, Gabe Eng (Brooklyn, N.Y.) connected on a 3-pointer for SLC to close within two points, 67-65, with 33 seconds left to play. The Rams hit 3-of-4 free-throws and held the Gryphons scoreless down the stretch to earn the 70-65 road victory. 

In addition to Riefenstahl's game-high 18 points, sophomore guard Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) scored 12 points and sophomore guard Jarred Marrow (Amityville, N.Y.) added 11 points and six boards in the win.

Sarah Lawrence was led by Hagmaier who scored a team-high 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds.

Farmingdale State next will host Mount Saint Mary in a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, February 6th at 3:00 p.m.
