Maritime - 73, Farmingdale State - 63
Throggs Neck, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team traveled to Maritime for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday afternoon and fell, 73-63.
After the Privateers (5-14, 5-8) took a 38-32 advantage into the break, the Rams (8-11, 8-6) opened the second half with nine straight points to go ahead by three, 41-38. Tied 43-43 with 13:18 remaining, Maritime freshman guard Michael Walker (Bayport, N.Y.) connected on a 3-pointer to regain the lead for the Privateers at 46-43.
Maritime held a 48-46 lead and used a quick 7-0 run that saw 3's by John Liccese (Bronx, N.Y.) and Brendon Halligan (Durham, N.Y.) to increase the advantage to 55-46 with 7:23 left to play.
With 4:03 remaining and Farmingdale State down 63-50, an Eddie Kinloch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) layup and free-throw followed by a dunk from George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) cut the deficit to eight, 63-55.
The Privateers hit eight free-throws over the final 2:42 to seal the 73-63 home victory.
Kinloch finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and a game-high five steals, while freshman guard Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) had 13 points and nine boards. Sophomore guard Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) pitched in with a team-leading 15 points and Riefenstahl scored eight and blocked a career-high five shots.
Sophomore center Patrick MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds, while junior forward Isaiah Hayes (Jamaica, N.Y.) had 10 points, 12 boards, seven assists and five blocks in the win.
FSC now will travel to Sarah Lawrence on Wednesday, February 3rd for a conference game at 7:00 p.m.
