Old Westbury - 77, Farmingdale State - 73 F/OT
Farmingdale, N.Y. - In a Skyline Conference men's basketball game against first place Old Westbury, Farmingdale State was defeated 77-73 in overtime. The Rams dropped to 8-10 overall and 8-5 in conference play, while Old Westbury now stands at 11-6, 10-2.
The Panthers led 37-30 early in the second half, before an 11-0 FSC run capped off with three free-throws by Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) put Farmingdale State ahead, 41-37.
Tied 46-46 with 9:40 remaining, a Jarred Marrow (Amityville, N.Y.) 3-pointer and a George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) layup gave the Rams a five-point advantage at 51-46.
After Farmingdale State extended the lead to 58-50 with 3:52 left on the clock, four straight points by junior guard Jamail Stanley (Syracuse, N.Y.) cut the Old Westbury deficit to 58-54.
Trailing 60-56 with less than two minutes remaining, Old Westbury's Stephon Odle (Medford, N.Y.) connected on a 3 to close the Panthers within one. After FSC hit 1-of-2 at the free-throw line, senior forward P.J. Page (Copiague, N.Y.) hit a jumper with 44 seconds remaining on OW's next possession to tie the game at 61-61 and force overtime.
The Panthers held a 66-64 lead midway through overtime until a layup by junior forward Weldon Irvine (Queens, N.Y.) evened the score at 66-66. Old Westbury used a 9-0 run over the next 1:43 to open up a 75-66 lead with 25 seconds remaining. The Panthers went on to win 77-73 win and moved a game ahead of Sage (10-4) for first place in the Skyline.
Riefenstahl scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while Marrow finished with 13 points and was a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc. Senior guard Eddie Kinloch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman guard Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) each tallied 12 points and Irvine scored seven and had a team-high 11 rebounds.
Old Westbury was led by Stanley who recorded a double-double with a game-high 23 points and 12 boards.
The Rams next will travel to Maritime for a conference matchup on Saturday, January 30th at 1:00 p.m. In their first meeting this year on January 14th, FSC earned a 96-86 victory.
