Yeshiva - 71, Farmingdale State - 69
New York, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team traveled to Yeshiva University for a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday night and fell, 71-69.
Trailing 55-43 with 10:09 remaining, a layup by freshman forward George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) cut the Rams (8-9, 8-4) deficit to 10, before back-to-back 3's from Anthony Lanieri (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Brandon Herriot (Hollis, N.Y.) trimmed Yeshiva's (7-6, 5-3) lead to 55-51. After a Shaje Weiss (Edison, N.J.) layup put the Maccabees ahead by six, FSC answered with a Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) jumper and a Herriot 3-pointer to close within one, 57-56, with 4:06 left to play.
With 2:14 on the clock and the Rams up 61-59, Yeshiva's Shelby Rosenberg (Woodmere, N.Y.) was fouled and converted both free-throws to tie the game at 61-61. After a Weldon Irvine (Queens, N.Y.) layup and free-throw put the Rams back on top by three, junior guard Jordan Hod (Teaneck, N.J.) connected on a 3 to even the score at 64-64.
Tied 66-66 with 27 seconds remaining, Yeshiva forced a steal and Hod hit both at the line after being fouled to give the Maccabees a two point lead, 68-66. The Maccabees held a 69-66 advantage with seven seconds left in the game until Graham hit a pair of free-throws to cut the Farmingdale State deficit to 69-68. The Rams fouled on their next possession and Hod converted both free-throws to bring the Yeshiva lead back to three with six seconds remaining. The Rams would add a late free-throw but fell, 71-69, in the road conference game.
Graham finished with 11 points and a team-high six assists, while sophomore guard Jarred Marrow (Amityville, N.Y.) scored 11 points and added three assists. Riefenstahl tallied 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting and had seven rebounds in the loss.
The Maccabees were led by Weiss' game-high 20 points, while junior forward Michael Berg (New York, N.Y.) pitched in with eight points and a game-high nine assists. Yeshiva recorded 24 assists on 27 field goals in the game.
Farmingdale State next will host first place Old Westbury (10-6, 9-2) on Tuesday, January 26th at 7:00 p.m.
