Kinard and Monaghan Lead Rams in Win at Mount Saint Vincent

Farmingdale State - 73, Mount Saint Vincent - 64


Riverdale, N.Y. - Sophomore guards Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) and Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) scored 20 and 19 points, respectively as the Rams earned a 73-64 Skyline Conference victory at Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday night. The Farmingdale State men's basketball team improved to 5-7 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.

The Dolphins (6-7, 5-3) led 20-14 with 10:10 left to play in the first half, before a 9-2 Farmingdale State run over the next 3:11 gave the Rams their first lead of the game at 23-22.

Trailing 31-25, FSC junior guard Brandon Herriot (Hollis, N.Y.) connected on a 3-pointer with 12 seconds remaining to send the Rams into the break only down three, 31-28.

After a George Riefenstahl (Bayport, N.Y.) layup to open the second half, Kinard hit back-to-back 3's to give Farmingdale State a 36-31 advantage. Mount Saint Vincent's Matt Zarnoch (Highland Mills, N.Y.) made 1-of-2 at the free-throw line on their next possession but the Rams followed with a 7-0 run to extend the lead to 43-32 with 14:59 remaining.

Leading 60-54 with 5:15 left on the clock, Farmingdale State used five straight points from Monaghan and a Kinard layup to regain a double-digit advantage at 65-54.

Mount Saint Vincent would only close within seven over the final minutes as the Rams earned the 73-64 conference road victory.

Kinard scored his game-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while Monaghan tallied 19 points and added three steals and two assists. Freshman guard Matthew Graham (Valley Stream, N.Y.) had eight points, four assists and three steals in the victory.

The Dolphins were led by sophomore forward Andrew Curiel (Bronx, N.Y.) who recorded a team-high 14 points and six rebounds.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, January 9th when they host Purchase in a Skyline Conference game at 2:00 p.m.
