Brockport Outlasts FSC in Non-Conference Game

Farmingdale, N.Y. - In the Farmingdale State men's basketball home opener, Brockport overcame a 14-point second half deficit en route to the 83-82 non-conference victory this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Leading 51-48 with 13:54 remaining, the Rams (0-3) used an 11-0 run over the next 2:41 to open up their largest lead of the game at 62-48.

After the Golden Eagles (2-0) cut the deficit to 65-58, FSC converted two free-throws to extend the advantage back to nine, 67-58, with 6:01 left on the clock. Brockport responded with a 13-2 run in which they connected on nine free-throws to take a 71-69 lead with less than four minutes remaining.

Sophomore guard Liam Monaghan (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) hit 1-of-2 at the line and forced a steal and layup to put the Rams back ahead, 72-71. The Golden Eagles answered with eight consecutive points to take a 79-72 lead with 2:11 left to play.

On Farmingdale State's next possession, Monaghan connected on a 3-pointer of the Jarred Marrow (Amityville, N.Y.) pass to close within four, 79-75.

Brockport led by four with three seconds remaining when FSC sophomore guard Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) hit a half court shot as time expired but the Rams fell one point short, 83-82.

Monaghan scored a career-high 22 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 3-for-6 from behind the arc. Senior guard Eddie Kinloch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Kinard had 11 points.

The Golden Eagles were led by junior guard Clifton Lyerly's (Inwood, N.Y.) game-high 23 points and nine boards.

The Rams next will travel to Division I Stony Brook University on Saturday, November 28th at 2:00 p.m.
