- FSC selected to finish ninth in the league -
New York, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference's 11 head men's basketball coaches recently voted in the 2015-16 Preseason Poll, and with a total of eight first-place votes, head coach Brian Barnes's Gators of The Sage Colleges are predicted to repeat as conference champions this year.
The Rams, under third-year head coach Brendan Twomey, return nine players and are excited for the upcoming 2015-16 season.
Weldon Irvine (Queens, N.Y.), who is entering his junior season, averaged 7.9 rebounds and 7.6 points per game last year, while Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) (7.2 ppg) and Eriq Williams (Valley Stream, N.Y.) (6.4 rpg) enter their sophomore seasons at Farmingdale State. Senior forward Anthony Lanieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) led the team in scoring in 2014-15 and looks for continued success this year.
The Rams' roster will feature six freshmen and one transfer. Brandon Harriot, a 6'3" guard, joins the team after playing two years of basketball at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. The freshmen guards joining FSC are Matthew Graham (Elmont HS), Liam Monaghan (Xavier HS) and Gerard Brady (Northport HS), while the three freshmen forwards include Matthew Kelly (Floral Park HS), Eddie Higgins (Holy Trinity HS) and George Riefenstahl (Bayport HS).
The men's basketball team opens the season with a non-conference game at CCNY on Tuesday, November 17th at 8:00 p.m. FSC's home opener is on Tuesday, November 24th at 5:00 p.m. against non-conference opponent Brockport State.
On Saturday, November 28th the Rams head to Division I Stony Brook University and will play their first Skyline Conference game four days later (Dec. 2) with a home matchup against Yeshiva University.
Last season, Farmingdale State posted an 8-17 overall record and were 6-12 in conference play.
