Yeshiva University - 61, Farmingdale State - 58
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team fell, 61-58, to Yeshiva University in their final game of the season. Justin Bailey (Jamaica, N.Y.) was honored prior to today's game for senior day.
Bailey was a 4-year member of the Rams appearing in 90 games. Over his career, he has averaged 6.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per contest, while recording 66 assists and 60 steals. He will leave Farmingdale State ranked fourth all-time in starts and fifth in games played.
Farmingdale State led by as many as nine points in the first half but the Maccabees (14-10, 11-7) closed on a 7-0 run highlighted by a Joseph Ammar (Miami, Fla.) 3-pointer as Yeshiva took a 23-22 lead into halftime.
Junior forward Anthony Lanieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) led all scorers in the first half with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting, while Ammar tallied eight points for Yeshiva.
After the Maccabees extended their advantage to 35-26 with 15:06 remaining, the Rams used a 10-0 run capped off by a Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) dunk to take a 1-point lead at 36-35.
Yeshiva held a 44-39 lead, until Marques Underwood (Bronx, N.Y.) and Jarred Marrow (Amityville, N.Y.) each hit layups for Farmingdale State to cut the deficit to 44-43 with 7:44 left to play.
A Yisrael Feld (Teaneck, N.J.) 3 put the Maccabees ahead by five with less than four minutes remaining but the Rams answered again with back-to-back scores by Lanieri and Bailey to close within one, 54-53. On Yeshiva's next possession, Feld connected on another 3-pointer to increase the lead to 57-53 with 2:02 left on the clock.
After an Eddie Kinloch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) layup, Yeshiva was a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line down the stretch as they earned the 61-58 victory.
Lanieri finished with a game-high 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting, while Marrow tallied 11 points and three assists. Bailey scores six points, had three rebounds and two assists in his final game as a member of the Rams.
The Maccabees were led by Ammar's team-high 13 points and 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting from Feld.
Farmingdale State finishes the 2014-15 season with an 8-17 record.
