Rams Win Thriller Over Rival Old Westbury

Farmingdale State - 54, Old Westbury - 50


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team defeated their conference rival Old Westbury, 54-50, in Skyline action this evening. The Rams improved to 7-14 overall and 5-9 in conference play, while the Panthers fell to 8-13, 8-6.

Old Westbury took a 24-22 lead into the break in a low scoring first half after junior guard Reynaldo Walters (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) had a team-high eight points and three assists. Freshman guard Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) led the way for Farmingdale State with six first half points.

The Rams trailed 39-33 with 12:07 remaining, before a 10-0 run that saw seven straight points by Anthony Lanieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and a Kinard 3-pointer to put Farmingdale State ahead, 43-39.

After back-to-back scores by Old Westbury tied the game at 43-43, freshman forward Eriq Williams (Valley Stream, N.Y.) converted a layup to regain the lead for the Rams with 3:59 left on the clock.

Trailing 48-47 with 1:03 remaining, Farmingdale State junior guard Ruben Terrero (Brentwood, N.Y.) hit a layup to give his a team a 1-point edge. After an Old Westbury turnover, an Eddie Kinloch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) layup increased the Rams lead to three, 51-48, with 39 seconds left to play.

Only 14 seconds later, the Panthers again closed within one on a Walters layup. Farmingdale State's defense held Old Westbury scoreless over the final 25 seconds en route to the 54-50 victory.

Kinard, Lanieri and Kinloch each finished with nine points, while Williams had eight points and eight rebounds. Terrero pitched in with three points, five boards and a game-high five assists for the Rams.

The Panthers were led by Walters who recorded a game-high 22 points in the loss.

Farmingdale State next will host Sarah Lawrence in a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, February 14th at 3:00 p.m.
