Rams Hold Off Mount Saint Mary for 57-56 Victory

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team defeated Mount Saint Mary, 57-56, in Skyline Conference action this evening.

Leading 47-45 with 7:49 remaining, Farmingdale State (6-13, 4-8) used an Anthony Lanieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) layup and Eddie Kinloch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) jump shot to extend their lead to six, 51-45. On Mount Saint Mary's (6-14, 5-8) next possession, freshman guard Daniel Wolff (Holtsville, N.Y.) connected on a 3 to cut the deficit to 51-48 with 5:33 left on the clock.

The Rams answered with back-to-back layups from Marques Underwood (Bronx, N.Y.) and Ruben Terrero (Brentwood, N.Y.) to open up a 55-48 advantage.

Trailing 57-50 with 2:00 left to play, the Knights converted two straight layups to close within three, 57-54. After a Farmingdale State foul with 47 seconds remaining, sophomore forward Alex Smith (Marlboro, N.Y.) hit both free-throws to cut the Mount Saint Mary deficit to one.

The Rams were charged with an offensive foul on their next possession and after each team took a timeout Tyler McDine's (Suffern, N.Y.) jump shot at the buzzer missed wide as Farmingdale State earned the 57-56 victory.

Kinloch finished with a team-high 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while Lanieri and sophomore forward Weldon Irvine (Queens, N.Y.) each scored 11 points and had eight rebounds.

The Knights were led by freshman guard Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.Y.) who tallied a game-high 15 points and Smith who notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.

The Rams next will head to Purchase for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, February 7th at 2:00 p.m.
