Rams Defeat Sarah Lawrence; Earn First Conference Win

Bronxville, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team earned their first conference victory of the season after tonight's 72-51 win at Sarah Lawrence. The Rams now stand at 3-10 overall and 1-5 in Skyline action this season.
After trailing 10-5 in the opening minutes, Farmingdale State responded with a 20-2 run to take a 25-12 lead with 9:15 remaining in the first half. The Gryphons (1-12, 0-7) answered with a 9-2 run over the next 4:39 to cut the deficit to six, 27-21. The Rams closed the half with a Justin Bailey (Jamaica, N.Y.) 3-pointer and two free-throws to take a 32-21 lead into the break.
Junior forward Marques Underwood (Bronx, N.Y.) led the way with 11 points for Farmingdale State, while sophomore guard Jeff Jordan (Smithfield, Va.) had a team-high nine points in the first half for Sarah Lawrence.
 
The Rams outscored Sarah Lawrence 14-5 over the first 6:18 of the second half to extend their advantage to 48-26.
 
Leading 54-38 with 8:09 left to play, an 11-0 Farmingdale State run gave the Rams their largest lead of the game at 65-38. Farmingdale State held at least an 18-point advantage the remainder of the way en route to the 72-51 victory.
 
Underwood finished with a game-high 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, while freshman center Ronald Winkler (North Massapequa, N.Y.) added 12 points (5-for-6). Sophomore forward Weldon Irvine (Queens, N.Y.) scored eight points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds in the win.
 
Sarah Lawrence was led by Jordanll who scored 11 points.
 
The Rams next will host Purchase in a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, January 17th at 3:00 p.m.
