Mount Saint Mary - 68, Farmingdale State - 64
Newburgh, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team traveled to Newburgh, N.Y. for a Skyline Conference game at Mount Saint Mary College this afternoon. The Rams fell, 68-64, and now stand at 2-10 overall and 0-5 in Skyline play this season.
Trailing 15-9 with 14:19 remaining in the first half, a 6-0 Farmingdale State run over the next 4:07 evened the score at 15-15.
The Knights (3-8, 2-2) held a 24-21 edge with less than three minutes until the break, but freshman guard Jarred Marrow (Amityville, N.Y.) connected on a 3 to tie the game at 24-24.
The Rams took their first lead of the game at 29-28 before Mount Saint Mary's Jason Oder (Levittown, N.Y.) closed the half with a 3-pointer to give the Knights a 31-29 halftime lead.
After the Knights quickly extended their advantage to 37-31, a Ruben Terrero (Brentwood, N.Y.) layup and Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) 3-pointer cut the Farmingdale State deficit to one.
Trailing 51-42 with 10:22 left to play, a 7-2 run by the Rams capped off with a Marques Underwood (Bronx, N.Y.) layup pulled Farmingdale State within four, 53-49. Mount Saint Mary responded with a 8-2 run to open up a 10-point lead at 61-51 with 5:17 remaining.
Leading 64-61 with 1:10 remaining, the Knights converted 1-of-2 at the line and Kinard connected on a 3 to pull the Rams within one, 65-64. After two successful free-throws gave Mount Saint Mary a three point lead with six seconds left, they fouled Farmingdale State who could not convert at the line. The Knights held on for a 68-64 conference victory.
Senior guard Justin Bailey (Jamaica, N.Y.) scored a game-high 20 points for Farmingdale State, while Terrero had eight points, nine rebounds and three assists.
Mount Saint Mary was led by freshman guard Gerard Nocera (Holmdel, N.J.) who tallied a team-high 19 points and Daniel Wolff (Holtsville, N.Y.) who pitched in with 15 points.
The Rams next will travel to Sarah Lawrence for a conference game on Wednesday, January 14th at 5:00 p.m. This will be the first meeting with Sarah Lawrence in program history.
