Mount Saint Vincent - 61, Farmingdale State - 45
Riverdale, N.Y. - In their first game of the New Year, the Farmingdale State men's basketball team dropped a Skyline Conference matchup at The College of Mount Saint Vincent, 61-45, on Saturday afternoon. The Rams fell to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the Skyline, while the Dolphins are now 7-2, 3-0.
Mount Saint Vincent jumped out to a 15-4 lead, before Farmingdale State responded with seven unanswered points capped off by a Anthony Lanieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 15-11 with 11:29 remaining. A 10-1 Dolphins run over the next 5:05 quickly extended their advantage to 25-12.
Farmingdale State went into the break trailing 31-20 as Lanieri scored a team-leading seven points in the half. Mount Saint Vincent shot 40% from the field after being led by senior guard James Zuccaro's (Gilbert, Ariz.) eight points.
The Dolphins started the second half on a 7-0 run to open up their largest lead of the game at 38-20.
Trailing 42-27 with 14:42 remaining, freshman guard Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y) connected on a 3 and Leland Williams (Amityville, N.Y.) followed with a layup to cut the Rams deficit to 10.
Farmingdale State was unable to close within 10 points the remainder of the game as they fell, 61-45.
Kinard tallied a team-high 10 points, while Lanieri had seven in his first game with the Rams.
The Dolphins were led by Zuccaro who scored a game-high 27 points on 12-of-19 shooting, while also adding nine rebounds.
Farmingdale State will return to action on Wednesday, January 7th when they host Maritime in a Skyline Conference game at 7:00 p.m.
