Rams Drop Conference Opener to Mount Saint Vincent

Mount Saint Vincent - 78, Farmingdale State - 60


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The College of Mount Saint Vincent led by 12 at half en route to a 78-60 Skyline Conference victory over the Rams this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Dolphins improved to a perfect 4-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Farmingdale State men's basketball team fell to 1-5, 0-1.

Trailing 13-6 early in the first half, a 9-0 Farmingdale State run capped off by a Jarred Marrow (Amityville, N.Y.) 3-pointer put the Rams ahead by two, 15-13.

Farmingdale State led 20-19 with 6:26 left to play, but Mount Saint Vincent closed the half on an 18-5 run to take a 37-25 advantage into the break. Senior guards James Zuccaro (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Antonio Johnson (Fort Johnson, N.Y.) each had 11 first half points for the Dolphins.

A Zuccaro layup followed by a Johnson layup and 3-pointer to start the second half extended Mount Saint Vincent's lead to 44-25. Farmingdale State responded with seven unanswered points to cut the deficit to 12, 44-32.

Leading 67-50 with 4:19 remaining, Zuccaro scored eight straight points to give Mount Saint Vincent their largest lead of the game at 76-54. The Dolphins went on for the 78-60 victory in the Skyline Conference opener.

Farmingdale State freshman guard Leland Williams (Amityville, N.Y.) recorded a team-high 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting, while junior guard Ruben Terrero (Brentwood, N.Y.) had 11 points and six assists.

Zuccaro finished with a double-double scoring 27 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to go along with four assists and four steals. Johnson tallied 23 points, six assists and four steals in the win.

The Rams next will travel to Sage for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, December 6th at 2:00 p.m.
