Rams Open Season with Loss to Hartwick

Hartwick - 82, Farmingdale State - 65


Oswego, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team fell, 82-65, to Hartwick in their first game of the season in Oswego, N.Y.

Trailing 18-10 midway through the first half, layups by junior guard Ruben Terrero (Brentwood, N.Y.) and freshman guard Leland Williams (Amityville, N.Y.) cut the Farmingdale State deficit in half. The Hawks answered with a 10-0 run to extend their advantage to 28-14 with 6:32 left to play in the half. Hartwick took a 38-28 lead into halftime.

The Hawks started the second half on an 8-0 to open up an 18-point lead with 18:40 left to play.

Farmingdale State trailed 54-36 with 15:53 remaining, but connected on three straight baskets to close within 12, 54-42.

A 19-4 Hartwick run over the next 5:18 put the Hawks on top 73-46 with under nine minutes left on the clock. The Hawks held a double-digit lead the remainder of the way as they earned an 82-65 victory.

The Rams were led by Williams who had a team-high 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while senior guard Justin Bailey (Jamaica, N.Y.) scored 10 points and had eight rebounds. Junior forward Marques Underwood (Bronx, N.Y.) pitched in with 10 points and seven boards.

Junior guard Trevor Norton (Mullica Hill, N.J.) had a game-high 17 points, while junior center Matt Wilson (Shelton, Conn.) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds for Hartwick.

Farmingdale State will face Elmira on Sunday, November 16th at 2:00 p.m.
