#3 Farmingdale State - 84, #6 St. Joseph's - 57
Farmingdale, N.Y. - In the quarterfinal round of the Skyline Conference playoffs, #3 Farmingdale State earned an 84-57 victory over sixth-seeded St. Joseph's College. The Rams advance to the semifinals and face #2 Mount Saint Mary on Thursday night.
Leading 23-19 with 8:46 remaining in the first half, Farmingdale State (18-8) went on a 14-0 run before allowing a St. Joe's (9-17) layup with five seconds left to take a 37-21 lead into the break.
After the Golden Eagles cut the deficit to 39-26, the Rams used a 14-3 run to open up a 24-point lead with 13:01 remaining.
The Rams held a 69-50 lead with 5:31 to play, before junior guard Justin Bailey (Jamaica, N.Y.) connected on a 3 and hit a layup to bring the advantage back to 24.
With tonight's victory the Rams head to Mount Saint Mary for the semifinals on Thursday at 8:00 p.m.
Senior center Donald Lawes (Queens, N.Y.) scored 14 points, had 15 rebounds and six blocks, while senior guard Timothy Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) had a team-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting for Farmingdale State. Bailey added 17 points and senior guard Jonathan Annan (Queens, N.Y.) scored 10 points and dished out a game-high eight assists.
The Golden Eagles were led by junior forward Darryl Charles (Middletown, N.Y.) who tallied a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
