Farmingdale State - 68, Old Westbury - 60


Old Westbury, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team improved to 13-6, 9-3 in the Skyline with a 68-60 victory over conference foe Old Westbury (11-8, 7-5) on Tuesday evening at the Clark Athletic Center.

Farmingdale State led 10-8 seven minutes into the game and used a 15-5 run over the next 7:54 to open up a 25-13 advantage. The Panthers answered with an 11-2 run to close the half as the Rams took a three-point lead, 27-24, into the break.

After Old Westbury tied the game 34-34, Farmingdale State scored eight straight points, including five by senior guard Jonathan Annan (Staten Island, N.Y.), to gain an eight point lead with 13:14 remaining. Trailing by nine with six minutes on the clock, the Panthers cut the deficit to 60-58, but the Rams held them to just two points over the final two minutes.

Senior center Donald Lawes (Queens, N.Y.) scored a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds, while freshman forward Weldon Irvine (Queens, N.Y.) had 15 points (71-percent from the field) and nine boards. Annan posted 13 points and a game-high five assists for Farmingdale State.

Old Westbury was led by junior forward Floyd Leroy (Spring Valley, N.Y.) who recorded a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds and junior guard Ray Parker's (Bronx, N.Y.) team-leading 18 points.
