Hot Shooting Leads Mount Saint Mary Past Rams

Mount Saint Mary - 94, Farmingdale State - 81


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team fell, 94-81, to Mount Saint Mary in a Skyline Conference game this afternoon. The Rams now stand at 11-5 overall and 7-2 in conference play, while the Knights improved to 13-4, 9-1. 

Leading 13-8 in the opening minutes, Mount Saint Mary used a 23-5 run to extend the advantage to 36-13 with 9:03 remaining in the first half. The Knights led by as many as 30 in the half and took a 53-27 lead into the break. As a team, Mount Saint Mary shot 52% from the field, including 47% (9-of-19) from behind the arc. Senior guard Donte Howell (Baldwin, N.Y.) led the way with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting and was 5-for-6 from 3-point range.

The Rams scored six straight points to start the second half to cut the deficit to 53-33 and force a Mount Saint Mary timeout.

Trailing 62-38, an 11-3 Farmingdale State run pulled the Rams within 16, 65-49, with 14 minutes to play. Farmingdale State would close to within 11 points over the final minutes but fell, 94-81.

The Rams were led by junior guard Justin Bailey (Jamaica, N.Y.) who scored 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting, while senior guard Timothy Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) added 20 points. Senior guard Jonathan Annan (Staten Island, N.Y.) tallied 17 points, seven boards and four assists and senior center Donald Lawes (Queens, N.Y.) finished with a double-double scoring 11 points and taking down 10 boards.

Senior forward Chris Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) finished with a game-high 23 points for the Knights, while Howell had 21 points, including five 3-pointers.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Maritime for a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, January 29th at 7:00 p.m.
