Rams Hold Off Sage in Skyline Victory

Farmingdale State - 94, The Sage Colleges - 89


Albany, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team won their fourth consecutive game after defeating The Sage Colleges, 94-89, on Saturday afternoon. The Rams improved to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in conference action, while the Gators dropped to 8-3, 5-1.

Trailing 45-41 with 17:19 remaining, a 12-0 Farmingdale State run that included a pair of 3-pointers by senior guard Timothy Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) gave the Rams a 53-45 lead.

Sage closed within three, 63-60, before senior guard Jonathan Annan (Staten Island, N.Y.) connected on a 3 and freshman forward Weldon Irvine (Queens, N.Y.) made a pair of free-throw's to bring the Rams lead back to eight with 8:21 left on the clock.

With 4:53 remaining, The Gators cut the deficit to 74-73 on a Troy Nwanna (Washington, DC) 3-pointer. Farmingdale State answered with four straight points to quickly bring the advantage back to five.

In the final 53 seconds, the Rams scored nine points from the free-throw line to secure the 94-89 Skyline victory.

Annan scored a team-high 19 points and added seven rebounds and four assists, while senior guard Terence Henderson (Bronx, N.Y.) had 18 points. Senior forward Curtis Williams (Stony Brook, N.Y.) tallied 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting and senior center Donald Lawes (Queens, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 12 points (6-of-8) and 12 boards.

Sage was led by junior forward Kai Deans (Miami, Fla.) who scored a game-high 20 points, while senior guard Jeff Stopera (Scotia, N.Y.) had 14 assists.

Farmingdale State next will host Old Westbury on Tuesday, January 14th at 7:00 p.m.
