Rams Fall in Title Game at Purchase

Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team fell, 71-48, in the Skyline Conference Championship game this evening in Purchase, N.Y. The Rams finished the season with a 20-8 record.

Purchase (22-5) jumped out to an early 10-2 advantage, before the Rams scored nine unanswered points to take an 11-10 lead with 9:56 remaining in the first half. With the score tied 15-15 at the 5:34 mark, sophomore guard Justin Bailey (Jamaica, N.Y.) sank a 3 to give the Rams the three-point edge and Farmingdale would hold a 20-19 lead at the break.

Purchase held a 28-25 lead early in the second half and used an 11-0 run to extend their advantage to 39-25 with 12:01 to play. The Panthers held a double-digit lead the remainder of the way after shooting 53% from the field in the half.

Senior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all scorers with 28 points and 17 rebounds for Farmingdale State.

Purchase's Craig Davis (Queens, N.Y.) scored a team-leading 15 points and had seven boards, while junior guard Justin Person (Greenburgh, N.Y.) scored 10 points and had a game-high eight assists.

The Panthers earned the Skyline's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
