Farmingdale State - 83, NYU-Poly - 75


Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team improved to 15-5 overall, 11-2 in conference play with an 83-75 victory over NYU-Poly last night in Brooklyn, N.Y. Senior guard Ryan Davis (Flushing, N.Y.) led the Rams with 25 points, including 11-of-12 from the free throw line.

Farmingdale State led 38-24 at the half, after the Fighting Blue Jays struggled shooting in the first half (25.9%). Davis led all scorers with 13 points at the break.

In the second, the Rams increased the lead to 20 points with 17:54 left to play and held a double-digit lead for most of the half. With 3:49 left to play and a 69-53 lead for Farmingdale, NYU-Poly went on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to eight, 71-63, with 1:44 remaining.

The Rams responded with a basket by senior guard Christian Nunez (White Plains, N.Y.) on the next possession to push the lead back to 10 points. Poly tried to intentionally foul Farmingdale over the final 1:34 to stay in the game, but the Rams knocked down 10 of their 12 free throws to secure the win.

Nunez finished with 17 points, while senior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pulled down a game-high 21 rebounds and added 19 points.

For Poly, freshman guard Jamel Gist (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a game-high 28 points with 12 rebounds.

The Rams will face the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, February 2nd in a Skyline game at 3:00 p.m.
