Davis Breaks School Record against NYU-Poly

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Junior guard Ryan Davis (Flushing, N.Y.) broke a school record tonight with a career-high 11 assists in Farmingdale State's 91-60 conference victory over NYU-Poly. The former school record of 10 assists was shared by three former players, including Tymel Ambrose ('09), Mike Kerrigan ('03) and Dashawn Warren ('05). The Rams improved to 10-4, 6-1 in the Skyline, while the Fighting Blue Jays fall to 0-13, 0-8. 

Farmingdale State opened the game with possession on the tip-off and a dunk by junior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) on an alley-oop pass from Davis, his first assist of the night, for the 2-0 lead. Senior guard Joshua Smith (Deer Park, N.Y.) made a jump shot on the next trip down for the 4-0 lead and Poly responded with a basket to get on the board. Rams senior forward Robert Adon (New York, N.Y.) was fouled behind the arc and made all three, giving his team a 7-2 lead in just 1:01 played.

Freshman forward Jethro Auguste (Brooklyn, N.Y./Everett) hit two quick three-pointer's to give the Fighting Blue Jays the 8-7 lead, their only lead of the game, before the Rams would take back the lead on a Smith layup at the 17-minute mark. Farmingdale State cruised the rest of the way, holding a 23-point cushion at halftime, 44-21. The Rams shot 50-percent from field goal range, holding Poly to just 29-percent shooting over the first 20 minutes.

In the second half, Farmingdale shot 61-percent and added 47 points to roll to the conference win as four Rams scored in double figures, posting two double-doubles. Davis added 12 points and three steals to his school record 11 assists, while Matthews recorded his 12th consecutive double-double of the season with a season-best 31 points, 15 rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Matthews went 12-for-15 from the field and is now shooting 69-percent from the floor on the season.

Smith also finished in double figures for Farmingdale State with 15 points and four assists, along with Adon who posted 10 points, two assists and one block for the night.

For NYU-Poly, Evan Azzam led with 23 points, including 5-of-8 from long range. Auguste and Brendon Henry both totaled 10 points.

The Rams will host Purchase College on Saturday afternoon in another Skyline game at 3:00 p.m. The women's team will preceed the men at 1:00 p.m.
