Several Rams Set Career-Best Marks at NJIT Highlander XC Challenge

NEWARK, N.J. - The FSC men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Division I hosted New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlander XC Challenge at Branch Brook Park in Newark, N.J. on Saturday. 

The men earned a ninth place finish out of 26 competing teams, while the women took 16th of 25 teams. 

In the men's 8k, Farmingdale State posted an average time of 29:03.

Senior Matthew Calogianes (Deer Park, N.Y.) tallied a career-best time of 26:54.0 and captured 22nd place out of 189 runners. He recorded an average mile of 5:24.7 and was fourth among Division III competitors.

Sophomore Jonathan Engelhardt (Kings Park, N.Y.) (28:44.0) and senior Connor McKeever (West Babylon, N.Y.) (29:02.0) each posted career-best marks and came in 46th and 54th, respectively.

Sophomore Daniel Catano (Deer Park, N.Y.) (73rd) finished in 30:10.0, while sophomore Patrick Vierling (Deer Park, N.Y.) (77th) notched a career-best time of 30:26.0.

In the women's 5k race, senior Alycia Haynes (Adams Center, N.Y.) was the top Division III runner and placed fifth in 18:39.0 (career-best). She finished behind four runners from Division I Seton Hall University.

Sophomore Gianna Scibelli (North Babylon, N.Y.) recorded a season-best time of 24:38.0 and came in 92nd overall out of 186 competitors.

FSC will next compete at the St. Joseph's-Long Island Invitational on Saturday, October 15th at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park, N.Y.
