
- Men Finish 7th, Women Finish 10th -
Bronx, N.Y. - This past Sunday, the Farmingdale State cross country teams ran in the CCNY Invitational held at Van Cortlandt Park, amongst 400 runners from 26 schools. The Rams finished in 7th place in the men's race and 10th place in the women's race.
The Dolphins from the College of Staten Island won the men's 8k race, while Patrick Goldberg from the College of Mount Saint Vincent came in first in the individual competition with a time of 26:23.0. Yeshiva University, last year's winners of the Classic, finished second while the John Jay College of Criminal Justice was third. Individually, Shaquille Sutherland of Essex County College came in second (26:36.4) while James Buckley of John Jay finished third (26:36.5).
Sophomore Jacob Kashani (Roslyn, N.Y.) led the men with an 18th place finish (31:30.4). Dio Rodriguez (Elmont, N.Y.) took 31st place at 32:39.5, while junior Daniel Barrett (Wantagh, N.Y.) came in 36th (33:19.5), sophomore Julio Jimenez (Dominican Republic) in 47th (35:03.1) and sophomore Caleb Fiedtkou (Bethpage, N.Y.) in 38th (35:03.8).
In the women's 6k race, Jennaya Hield from Essex Community
College was the overall individual winner, coming in first place
with a time of 24:33.6. The Wolverines took the top two spots, as
Fawzia Kheir of Essex came in second (24:56.3). Maria Gronau of
Baruch College was the top finisher among four year schools,
finishing third at 25:13.5. Second among the four years was Marissa
Controneo among Pace College with a time of 25:32.9. Pace College
won in the team scoring among the four years, with three runners in
the top 17. Sarah Lawrence College was second, with three runners
in the top ten. The host Beavers of City came in third.
For Farmingdale State, freshman Nicole Franz (Huntington, N.Y.)
finished in 28th place individually (29:20.1), while senior
Katherine Monti (Gates Mills, Ohio) placed in 29th at 29:33.7 and
freshman Megan Eiseman (Seaford, N.Y.) took 44th in 29:43.9.
Rounding out the top five were freshman Ellen Kim (Queens, N.Y.) in
57th (32:03.6) and junior Kazia Garvey (Elmsford, N.Y.) in 74th
(34:32.3).
The Rams will now travel for the St. Joseph's Invitational on Saturday, October 18th at Sunken Meadow State Park at 1:00 p.m. The Skyline Championships will be held on Sunday, October 26th at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome in Milton, N.Y.
