- Johnson named NJAC Rookie of the Year -
Pitman, N.J. - The New Jersey Athletic Conference released the 2012 men's and women's outdoor track All-Conference teams. Freshman Ieshawn Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) was named Rookie of the Year, while junior Edward Brown IV (Bay Shore, N.Y.) received First Team honors and junior Mike Jang was named Second Team All-Conference. Freshman Jonathan Gortman (Dix Hills, N.Y.), senior Sean Tiernan (Staten Island, N.Y.) and sophomore Alix Lamarre (North Bellmore, N.Y.) were each named Honorable Mention.
Johnson, a four-time NJAC Rookie of the Week selection, claimed the conference championship in the discus by defeating a field of 16 competitors with an ECAC qualifying throw of 48.26m. He also placed second in a field of 17 competitors in the shot put with an ECAC qualifying mark of 14.35m. Johnson set the third best mark in Farmingdale State College history in the discus with a distance of 52.14m at the TCNJ Invite. He was named First Team All-Conference in the discus and received Second Team Honors in the shot put.
Brown was named First Team All-Conference in the hammer throw this season. Brown improved upon his own school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 53.68m (176'1") at the Queens College Invitational. At the NJAC Championships, Brown captured this event with a throw of 48.77m (160').
Jang earned Second Team honors in the hammer throw with a runner-up finish at the conference championship (47.90m/157' 2"). Jang's best mark of the year came at the Queens College Invitational where he recorded a throw of 51.70m (169' 7"), which is ranked second all-time at Farmingdale State.
Gortman was named NJAC Honorable Mention in the 110m hurdles. Gortman placed third at the NJAC Championship in a time of 16.16.
Tiernan earned NJAC Honorable Mention in the 3,000m steeplechase for the Rams. He placed third in this event at the conference championship with a time of 10:00.52.
Lamarre, an Honorable Mention in the long jump, finished in third place at the NJAC Championship with a leap of 6.79m (22' 3.5").
