Grech Sets New Pole Vault Record at Captains Classic

Newport News, VA - The track team opened the outdoor season on a high note with a second place finish in the Captains Classic meet. The women's team finished in sixth place with 17 points out of nine scoring teams. Kara Grech established a new pole vault record by vaulting 8 feet and placing second. Kara also placed 4th in the Javelin with a throw of 89' 2 1/2" (27.19m). Karla Joseph placed 5th in the 400m in 62.65.

For the men's team, sophomore team captain Reggie Routier qualified for the ECAC Championships on May 18th-19th at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. Reggie placed 4th in the 110m High Hurdles in a personal best 15.74. He placed 5th in the Triple Jump in 43'9 1/4" (13.34m) and anchored the 3rd place 400-Meter Relay team in 43.33. All are ECAC qualifiers. Junior Akil Williams won the High Jump in 6'6" (1.98m) to also qualify for the ECAC meet.

David Casillas - 2nd place - Hammer Throw - 114'1" (34.77m)

Team Score - 2nd place out of 10 scoring teams - 102 points.
