NEW HAVEN, Conn., and STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College indoor track and field teams kicked off their 2022-23 seasons this weekend (Dec. 2-3) at a pair of meets, with senior women's multi-event standout Emily Russell (Southold, N.Y.) picking up a win in the pentathlon at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge (hosted by Southern Connecticut State University), while numerous personal records were set at the St. John's University-hosted, Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

Russell posted a qualifying mark for the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Atlantic Regional Championship in her first pentathlon, picking up 2,866 points in the process. Included in her totals were winning marks in the high jump (1.58m; 5-2.25) and shot put (10.64m; 34-11), as well as second-place showings in the long jump (4.8m; 15-9) and 800-meter run (2:44.14).

On the men's side, sophomore Robert Kalinowski (Farmingdale, N.Y.) took home fifth place in the heptathlon with a score of 3,857 points. In his efforts, he was the top finisher in the pole vault, leaping to a winning height of 4.22m (13-10).

On the men's side, sophomore Steven Grannis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) registered a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with his mark of 13.55m (44-5.5), serving as the top Division III finisher in the event.

Freshman thrower Marcin Wasiuta (Farmingdale, N.Y.) posted a pair of top-12 efforts in his collegiate debut. He took home seventh place in the shot put with a mark of 12.36m (40-6.75) on his last throw of the final round, while placing 12th with a toss of 11.05m (36-3) in the weight throw.

Senior Morris Johnson (Binghamton, N.Y.) sprinted to a 7.17 time in the 60-meter dash, before setting a personal record with his 23.18 time in the 200-meter dash -- both good for 11th place among 30-plus competitors.

In the field events, sophomore Isaiah Mehnert (W. Babylon, N.Y.) posted a PR in the long jump, placing 11th with his 6.13m (20-1.5) leap on his second jump of the day.

In women's action, junior Alexxis McNeil (Valley Stream, N.Y.) set a pair of PRs in the sprint events, including an 8.14 time in the 60-meter dash and pr in 60m 8.13 and a 12th-place time of 26.82 in the 200-meter dash.

Head coach Daniela Georgieva's teams are now off from competition until the new calendar year, where they'll return to the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island on Jan. 16 (Mon.) for the MLK Tribute Invitational.
